Everything you need to know.
How XAM works, what happens to your files, how credits work, and whether it fits your workflow. Pick a category and read the plain answers.
They're stored in encrypted cloud storage, never shared with third parties, and never used to train any AI model, including ours. Your documents belong to you and are only reachable from your account.
No. Nothing you upload, source documents, generated questions or student responses, is ever used to train AI models of any kind. Your intellectual property stays yours.
Yes. XAM meets GDPR requirements for data handling, storage and user rights, so it's fine to use in EU institutions and with EU student data.
No. Your question bank, files and student data are isolated to your account, and nothing crosses account or organisational boundaries. On the Institutional plan the shared pool is shared only within your organisation, never with others on XAM.
You can password-protect any PDF before it leaves XAM, and add a watermark to drafts. Password protection is on every plan, Free included.
Credits are how generation is measured. Each run spends credits based on your document length and the number of questions. Your balance sits on the dashboard before you generate, monthly credits reset on your billing date, and top-ups never expire.
150 credits a month, around 75 questions depending on the source and question types. That's a full exam's worth every month, with no time limit and no card. It's a real plan, not a trial.
Monthly credits reset on your billing date. Run out before then and you can buy top-ups instantly, from 1,000 credits at $2, in steps of 1,000. Top-ups never expire and roll over, so there's no rush to spend them.
Longer documents and more complex question types need more processing. In practice a standard 10-question run from a chapter or lecture note is about 2 credits a question. The dashboard shows your balance before every run, so there are no surprise charges.
Any time, with no notice period and no penalty. At the end of the billing period you drop back to Free, and your full question bank, files and settings stay exactly where they are. You only lose the Pro-only features.
It starts at two seats at $17 a seat each month, with 10,000 credits per seat pooled across your organisation, so a department of 12 shares 120,000 credits a month. You manage seats and usage from one admin account, adding or removing seats any time.
They come straight from your source material, not a generic database or templates. You set the cognitive level, difficulty and types, and every question passes your Review Panel before it saves. You keep what's good and discard what isn't.
That's exactly why the Review Panel exists. Every question is shown to you before it saves or exports, and you can edit anything, including the correct answer, by hand or by describing the change in plain words. Nothing leaves without your sign-off.
By default, questions are grounded strictly in your uploaded source. Creative Mode, which lets the AI add outside scenarios and knowledge, is off by default and only runs when you turn it on deliberately.
Yes. Full LaTeX and MathJax support end to end, from extraction through the editor to the export. Formulas render live as you type and come through intact in PDF and Word. Upload a physics or chemistry paper and the notation stays right.
It genuinely changes what's generated, not just the label. A 'Remember' question asks for a definition; an 'Analyse' question on the same content asks students to compare components or identify assumptions. Pick the level before generating and the questions are structurally matched to it.
PDF, DOCX, CSV and TXT. For importing into your bank, also .GIFT (Moodle's format) and .Aiken (plain-text multiple choice). You can export in PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, JSON or TXT.
English, Urdu, Arabic, French and Spanish. It processes your document in its source language and generates in that same language, with no translation. Scrambled Arabic and Urdu from older PDFs is detected and repaired automatically before generation.
X-Ed LMS is integrated natively, including grade sync. Google Classroom, Moodle and Canvas are in development and coming in upcoming releases. Meanwhile XAM works standalone: publish a link, collect responses and auto-grade, with no LMS at all.
Yes. Import in CSV (the template is on the Question Bank screen), .GIFT or .Aiken. The CSV template has seven fields: question, answer, type, options, difficulty, Bloom's level and marks. Most banks export to one of these.
Yes. It's mobile-optimised and works on any device with a browser, phone, tablet or laptop. Students open a link with nothing to download, and all eight question types work on mobile.
The Target Audience setting runs from Primary through PhD and Industry Expert. Set your learner level and XAM adjusts reading age, vocabulary, assumed knowledge and how questions are framed. It's used across every level of education.
Yes, anything from a five-question exit ticket to a 50-question exam. Generate a small set, publish a link, and the Teacher Panel shows results as students submit, which is handy for same-day feedback.
Yes, the Institutional plan is built for it. Your department shares a question bank, a credit pool and a central admin account, so questions from any educator are available to everyone. The admin manages seats, usage and permissions.
Yes. In the Export Panel you can shuffle question order, group by type, and generate several versioned papers from one set. Each version is a separate export: same questions, different order.
Both. Export a print-ready PDF, or publish digitally to the Student Panel. Students complete it online and submit, objective questions auto-grade, and written responses are flagged for review in your Teacher Panel.
No. Your bank is preserved whatever your plan. Cancel Educator Pro and drop to Free, and your full question bank, files and settings stay intact and accessible. You lose Pro-only features (custom branding, presets, watermark removal), not your content.
Yes. XAM is cloud-based, so your question bank, files and settings sync across every device. Log in from any browser and everything is where you left it.
Free is a real plan, not a trial: 150 credits a month (about 75 questions), the full question bank, the Review, Teacher and Student Panels, auto-grading, link delivery and PDF export. Pro adds 10,000 credits a month, custom branding, no XAM watermark and custom export presets.
