The satisfying part of XAM is the questions that appear a minute after you upload. The interesting part is everything that happens in between, because a lot of it is the difference between usable output and nonsense.
- 1
Read the document properly
A PDF stores where marks sit, not clean letters. First, lift the real text out.
- 2
Repair right-to-left text
Reconstruct Arabic and Urdu that most tools extract as reversed nonsense.
- 3
Understand the content
Work out the topics, level and structure, not just scan the words.
- 4
Generate, then hand control back
Draft questions across levels, and wait for you to review every one.
1. Reading the document properly
A PDF is not text; it is a description of where marks sit on a page. A textbook chapter, a scanned worksheet, and a slide deck each hide their words differently. The first job is to reconstruct the actual reading order, keep headings attached to the sections they introduce, and not treat a two-column layout as one scrambled column. Get this wrong and every downstream step inherits the mess.
2. Repairing right-to-left text
This is the step most tools skip. Arabic and Urdu are frequently stored in PDFs with their character order broken, so a copy-paste produces reversed or disconnected letters that look like gibberish. XAM detects and reconstructs this text back into correctly ordered, connected script, so a passage that other tools would mangle becomes something you can actually build questions from.
3. Understanding the content, not just scanning it
Once the text is clean, XAM works out what the material is teaching: the concepts, how they relate, and which parts carry the weight worth testing. This is what lets it generate a question that draws on an idea rather than lifting a sentence and blanking out a word.
4. Generating, then handing control back
Only now does it write questions, across a range of cognitive levels rather than a pile of recall. And then it stops and shows them to you. XAM proposes; you decide. Every question is there to be kept, edited, or discarded before anything reaches a learner. The tool does the slow work; the judgement stays with the educator.
None of these steps are glamorous, and when they work you never think about them. That is the goal. A minute of quiet, careful processing so that the part you see just works.
